A new revolution has arrived, with the Aqara Smart Lock U400 unveiled at CES 2026 last week.
The latest addition to the Aqara smart lock portfolio comes equipped with the cutting-edge ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. This deadbolt lock uses high-precision location tracking to offer intuitive, hands-free unlocking with home key on iPhone or Apple Watch.
With incredible accuracy, the U400 automatically unlocks when an authorised user walks up to the door, marking a major leap forward in secure, convenient, and reliable access control.
“At Aqara, we envision a future where smart home technology is seamless, intuitive, and even invisible – your home responds naturally to the people within it, without requiring constant user interaction”, said Cathy You, Aqara Senior Vice President of Global Business and Strategy. “With the U400 lock, we’re redefining how consumers engage with their access control systems, providing instant, automated access without compromising privacy”.
The Smart Lock U400 is designed for effortless home access
Simply walk up to enter: Instead of tapping-to-unlock or entering a PIN code, users can walk toward the door to unlock it with an authorised digital key like a home key in Apple Wallet. Unlike traditional proximity-based technologies like Bluetooth, UWB utilises Time of Flight (ToF) distance measurement and Angle of Arrival (AoA) calculations to track the user’s trajectory. This ensures the lock only grants access when the authorised user approaches from the outside and minimises accidental unlocks when the user is inside or merely passing by.
Robust security: Beyond convenience, UWB strengthens security. Thanks to precise ranging and security enhancements like scrambled timestamp sequence (STS), the U400 lock features robust protection against relay attacks.
True hands-free access: The U400 lock seamlessly integrates with home key in Apple Wallet on iPhone or Apple Watch. Unlock a door simply by approaching with an iPhone, even if it’s in a bag or pocket, or an Apple Watch on the wrist.. Additionally, the U400 offers various access options to accommodate user habits and preferences, ranging from NFC (including tap-to-unlock with an authorised digital key like a home key in Apple Wallet or with an Aqara NFC card), fingerprint recognition, one-time and recurring passcodes, unlock remotely via mobile apps, voice assistants like Alexa and Siri, and traditional mechanical keys for emergencies.
Built on the Thread protocol, the U400 lock works seamlessly with a wide range of Matter-enabled platforms, including Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Home Assistant, and SmartThings, without requiring a proprietary hub.
It integrates smoothly into existing automation, scenes, and routines, ensuring future-proof compatibility across devices, brands, and ecosystems. This UWB lock is Aliro-ready, aiming to offer the next-gen mobile access experience to all users regardless of their hardware or operating system. For example, Samsung Wallet will be supported on the U400 in Q1 2026, allowing users to use a compatible Samsung device as a digital key.
Other highlights of this lock include auto-lock that is powered by a built-in gyroscope, an IP65-rated durable design, and a rechargeable Li-ion battery offering up to 6 months of operation per charge. When the battery dies, users can recharge the U400 with a third-party power bank. The U400 lock is available in 4 elegant colors: black, silver, shadow black, and satin nickel, allowing it to blend into most home decor.
The Aqara Smart Lock U400 with M100 Kit will be available for pre-order from Friday 16 January at the lowest price globally in Australia at $399 AUD (RRP $549) – exclusively at the Aqara Official Store.
