MOVA Smart Home Ecosystem: Less Time on the House?


MOVA brought more than 20 new products to its Australian launch, spanning floors, windows, gardens, pools, pets and personal care. But a smart home isn’t defined by how many devices it contains. The more interesting question is whether all that technology can quietly give us some of our time and attention back.

Lately, I’ve spent a slightly ridiculous amount of time playing with local AI models.

There is something satisfying about doing that while, elsewhere in the house, a robot vacuum quietly chases Gizmo’s hair around the floor. The technologies have almost nothing in common, but the appeal is similar: good automation gives some of my attention back.

That thought was already rattling around my head before MOVA’s 2026 Australian and New Zealand launch in Sydney. By the end of the presentation, MOVA had supplied its own version of it: “Less time on the house, more time in it.”

It’s a much more interesting proposition than simply putting AI into more appliances.

MOVA unveiled more than 20 new products spanning home cleaning, garden, pool, windows, kitchen, personal care and pet care, with its connected products managed through the same MOVAhome app.

Breadth alone doesn’t make a smart home, though. A house full of intelligent products that each demand setup, attention and troubleshooting may simply give you a collection of new hobbies.

That convenience also comes with a data and security question. Once the same ecosystem sits between you and LiDAR maps, cameras, pet monitoring and an increasing number of devices around the home, what stays there, what leaves it, and how well is that common platform protected?

Taking an impossible triangle personally

Kattie Lu, Senior Marketing Manager ANZ at MOVA, opened the presentation with a Penrose triangle, an impossible object whose three sides make sense until you try to reconcile them.

MOVA’s version was premium quality, design and innovation. Consumers, the argument went, are often expected to choose two.

Its engineers apparently took that personally.

The MOVA brand itself is remarkably young, launching globally in 2024 and entering Australia in May 2025.

MOVA made control over its own engineering a central part of the pitch. One slide was unusually blunt: “We don’t buy the engine. We build it.” The company says its research team numbers more than 300 people, including master’s and PhD graduates, and pointed to a self-developed 150,000rpm digital motor alongside more than 2,000 patents across its wider technology portfolio.

The numbers are MOVA’s. The reasoning behind that approach is one I’m all too familiar with from my own experience in industry.

If you design a product around somebody else’s motor or core hardware, you also inherit its operating limits and whatever decisions that supplier makes next. If the part changes or disappears, you’re the one redesigning around it. Controlling more of the stack gives MOVA’s engineers more freedom to change the product around the problem they’re actually trying to solve.

That distinction kept resurfacing as we moved through the launch. Intelligence can decide what needs to happen. The engineering still has to make it happen.

MOVA says it now has almost two million customers globally. At the centre of its Australian launch were three flagships: the A$3,299 V70 Ultra Complete robot vacuum, A$3,999 LiDAX Ultra 2000 AWD robotic lawn mower and A$3,999 Rover X10 pool cleaner.

The event itself made considerably more sense once we got up and started moving.

MOVA had staged the range throughout a home rather than lining more than 20 products up in something resembling a very expensive catalogue. Robot vacuums occupied the first indoor demonstration area. Further through were pet care, air purification, personal care, kitchen appliances and audio. At the windows were another pair of robots. Outside, robotic mowers occupied the lawn, while down below the pool cleaners had somewhere considerably more appropriate to demonstrate their talents.

We were effectively walking through MOVA’s ecosystem argument.

The products changed, and so did the job MOVA was trying to remove. The underlying idea didn’t: leave less for the person to finish.

First, the floor

Robot vacuums already solve a real problem in my house because Gizmo, my Rhodesian Ridgeback, apparently considers shedding a competitive sport.

The timing of one of MOVA’s presentation slides was almost too good. It asked: “Why should your home adapt to your robot?”

At my sister-in-law’s place in Sydney, their robot vacuum has affectionately been named Bob. When I arrived, things had been shifted out of Bob’s way so he could do his job.

Fair point, MOVA.

The V70 Ultra Complete is designed around exactly those compromises. Its headline suction figure is 42,000Pa, but the part I could actually see matter was MaxiReachX. The mop can extend up to 17cm beneath furniture and cabinetry, while the side brush reaches 12cm into awkward spaces. It also claims recognition of more than 300 object types and StepMaster 2.0 obstacle crossing for combined thresholds up to 9cm.

During the demonstration, Justin Hill described recently finding what appeared to be almost an entire additional dog underneath a cabinet.

I can absolutely relate.

We then watched the V70 clean around a stool. Instead of maintaining a wide robot-sized clearance around each leg, its cleaning hardware physically extended around the obstruction.

That footage explains MaxiReachX better than the 17cm figure ever will. I’d rather move the stool later and find nothing underneath it than be impressed by how far a mechanical arm can travel.

MOVA applies the same “leave less to finish” philosophy differently in the A$2,999 Z70 Ultra Roller. Its roller is continually refreshed with clean water while dirty water is removed, and AutoShield covers the wet roller before it crosses onto carpet. Different mechanism, same practical question: does the robot actually finish the job, or leave me following behind it?

Through the rest of the house

The further I walked, the more obvious the scale of MOVA’s ambition became.

There were kitchen appliances, hair care, toothbrushes, pet feeders, grooming products, audio and air purifiers. This is the point at which “One Home. One MOVA.” started feeling less like a robot-vacuum slogan and more like an attempt to stretch one technology brand across almost every repetitive job it could find.

MOVA’s broader home strategy also extends into kitchen appliances and other everyday household categories.

An air purifier isn’t an abstract smart-home product when you also live with Simba the ferret. Ferrets bring many excellent qualities to a home. Being entirely odourless and hairless is not amongst them.

The P10 pet air purifier caught my attention for an obvious reason. MOVA has designed its airflow specifically around pet households, with upper and lower purification zones and ducts intended to target airborne pet hair and dander, alongside six-stage filtration, allergen treatment and odour control.

That’s the sort of engineering detail I care about considerably more than whether somebody has managed to insert “AI” into the description. I care about whether it reduces something I already have to deal with, or solves one of those little problems that’s been nagging at me.

At the more unexpected end of the range was the A$399 Fresh 20 Vision, which pairs an electric toothbrush with AI-assisted plaque visualisation so you can see where you’ve missed instead of simply assuming two enthusiastic minutes achieved dental perfection.

MOVA sent attendees home with one.

There is something mildly confronting about giving your toothbrush the ability to produce evidence. I will apparently be finding out.

Then the windows

Eventually we reached the glass.

The A$999 T1 Station is MOVA’s first window cleaner with a base station, combining automated route planning, 10,000Pa suction and multiple layers of safety protection.

Watching it clean an already pristine pane wouldn’t have told us much, so someone drew directly onto the glass. Justin then had a volunteer switch the T1 into manual mode through MOVAhome and drive it back to that section without making it repeat the entire window.

My version of this problem is Gizmo’s nose prints, which have an impressive ability to reappear approximately five seconds after I clean the glass.

For that kind of mess, manual control is exactly the useful part. Sometimes I don’t need a robot to rethink the entire task. I just need it to deal with that bit. Again.

Outside, the engineering argument became tangible

The mower was where MOVA’s argument for engineering around the environment stopped being abstract.

MOVA says it surveyed more than 4,000 Australian garden owners, with trees and shadows, complicated layouts and difficult terrain amongst the problems it wanted to address.

Tansy Peng said the team investigated RTK satellite positioning during development, but signal and communication dropouts around trees, structures and other obstructed environments weren’t giving them the consistency they wanted. MOVA instead engineered its newer system around 3D LiDAR.

That isn’t an argument that LiDAR is universally superior to RTK. The engineering decision is the interesting part: when a dependency wasn’t behaving reliably enough for the environment they were designing around, they changed the architecture.

The LiDAX Ultra 2000 AWD combines 360-degree 3D LiDAR with dual AI vision, mapping a lawn without buried boundary wires or an RTK reference station.

Then the positioning system still has to drag a mower around the actual garden.

Outside, I watched it make its way around MOVA’s purpose-built course, including the steep section demonstrating its claimed 80%, or 38.6-degree, maximum slope. UltraTrim 2.0 is also designed to leave less than 3cm uncut at the boundary.

The demonstration showed it could handle the prepared incline, but it couldn’t show how the system would handle a real Australian backyard after several seasons of roots, moving garden furniture, overgrown edges and whatever crime against landscaping has accumulated alongside the fence.

That’s the part I’d want to test. Because if a robot mows the lawn and I still have to follow it around with a line trimmer, most of the job may be automated, but this annoying bit is still mine. Or, worse, I have to go and rescue it.

And finally, somebody threw a robot into the pool

We eventually made our way down through the garden to the pool.

The A$3,999 Rover X10 approaches pool cleaning almost like an underwater drone. Four jet-drive motors allow it to manoeuvre through the water, while its underwater AquaScan LDS maps the pool and PoolNavi plans a cleaning route. MOVA designed it to move across the floor, walls, waterline, corners, steps, shallow zones and surface rather than treating the bottom of the pool as the whole job.

The more unusual engineering is AquaSonar.

MOVA demonstrated its robotic pool cleaners in the environment they were designed for rather than on a static stand.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth become considerably less useful once you put the receiving device underwater. MOVA keeps the conventional wireless side above the water in a separate floating communication unit. From there, the float uses sonar to communicate with the submerged X10, allowing the app to retain a live connection while the robot is cleaning.

Seeing the two parts operating together made the engineering problem much easier to understand. Keep the radio where radio works. Change communication method when you reach the water.

I asked whether vibration from pool pumps or other equipment interfered with the sonar link. The engineering team said they had found communication consistently reliable.

I’d like considerably more time, and unfortunately a swimming pool, to investigate that.

I suspect the accountant may reject the latter.

Then came the A$1,299 Diver A10.

The setup instructions were refreshingly uncomplicated: throw it into the pool.

Not carefully lower it. Throw it.

And somebody did. I have video evidence.


The A10 disappeared beneath the water, got itself oriented and started cleaning. What stuck with me was how little ceremony stood between having the robot beside the pool and having it doing something useful.

One home, one MOVA?

By the time we reached the pool, “ONE HOME. ONE MOVA.” made considerably more sense than it had on the sign outside.

We had walked through the proposition. Floors, pets, air, personal care, windows, garden and pool had all become parts of the same argument: there is a surprising amount of our lives occupied by maintaining the place where those lives happen.

Country Manager Nancy Zhang described MOVA’s ambition as technology taking on more of that work in the background rather than demanding more attention from the people using it.

That is very close to the smart home I want. It is also harder to achieve than simply making a collection of competent products.

One of MOVA’s closing slides made the technical claim behind the slogan clearer: “Three Products. One App. One Home.” The V70, LiDAX and Rover were presented as running through the same system and app, “learning the same home.”

That is a more interesting promise than merely putting three product tiles inside MOVAhome.

The test will be whether adding products actually removes repeated setup and management, reuses useful context where appropriate and makes routines simpler. A shared app is helpful. An ecosystem needs to do more than save me from creating three accounts.

I already spend enough time troubleshooting systems professionally and voluntarily experimenting with technology at home. I don’t particularly want to become the systems administrator for my vacuum cleaner, lawn mower, toothbrush and ferret’s air purifier.

Which brings me to the less visible part of the ecosystem.

After the launch, I went looking at how MOVA handles information flowing through its common platform.

For its P50 robot-vacuum series, MOVA says obstacle-avoidance and real-time path-planning images are processed locally and generally deleted immediately. Maps and cleaning history are encrypted on the device, with copies synchronised to the cloud for app functions, while data moving between the robot, app and cloud is encrypted.

That’s a useful baseline, but it doesn’t tell me that a camera-equipped pet feeder or plaque-imaging toothbrush necessarily handles data in exactly the same way.

The shared software platform has also had a security test in the real world. CVE-2025-8393 affected older versions of Dreamehome and MOVAhome, including MOVAhome for iOS up to version 1.2.3, because of improper certificate validation that could expose credentials or session tokens on an untrusted network. CISA’s June 2026 update records that the apps were subsequently updated and recommends users run the current version.

That history doesn’t make MOVA uniquely risky. Connected products will have vulnerabilities. What matters over the life of the hardware is whether problems can be reported, fixed and pushed out to users.

The same nuance applies to privacy: local processing does not automatically make something private, just as cloud processing does not automatically make it unsafe. What I still want to understand is how consistently that local-cloud balance carries across MOVA’s much wider range.

Long-term support matters for the same reason. MOVA backs its products with a three-year warranty. At Australian RRPs, the three new flagships alone total A$11,297. At that level of investment, software support, repairability, security updates and the durability of the ecosystem are part of what you’re buying.

Bringing it back to people

For all the discussion of motors, LiDAR, AI and connected ecosystems, one of the things I kept thinking about afterwards had very little to do with the products.

Barry Crowhurst, who presented MOVA’s power-tool range, has spent decades launching and growing tool brands in Australia, including helping establish EGO Power Tools in the local market.

Later, I asked him what his biggest takeaway had been from launching businesses and brands. He stopped to think before answering: culture.

Things will get tough in any business, he said. What keeps you together, and makes it worth continuing, is the team you’re surrounded by.

His answer reminded me of a conversation I’d had with MOVA ANZ Country Manager Nancy Zhang at SilkGear’s grand opening. With an Australian team of just a few people, she had similarly talked about how important it was to have a good team around you.

Neither conversation was part of a prepared presentation. Yet for all the day’s talk of motors, AI and engineering, both came back to the experience of building a business with the people around you.

The smartest technology may be the easiest to forget

MOVA began the day with an impossible triangle: premium quality, design and innovation.

I left with another one in mind: capability, reliability and attention.

Smart-home technology already has plenty of capability. The harder part is making it reliable enough that it stops asking for attention in return.

Reliability isn’t only whether the mower finds its way home or the vacuum gets around the stool. It is whether the mechanical design survives the environment, whether software continues working, whether vulnerabilities get fixed and whether the ecosystem remains something I can trust without having to supervise it.

That is what makes a robot quietly collecting Gizmo’s hair useful to me. The same goes for a window cleaner dealing with the nose print he replaced five seconds after I removed the last one, or an air purifier catching some of what Simba contributes to the atmosphere.

I don’t need any of them constantly reminding me how intelligent they are. I need them to work.

And that’s where my own triangle comes together. Capability determines what the technology can take off my hands. Reliability determines whether I can trust it to keep doing so. Attention is what I shouldn’t have to keep paying in return.

The smart home I want isn’t one where everything constantly announces that it is connected. It’s one where a collection of boring little jobs simply stops occupying quite so much of my life.

If MOVA can balance all three, that may be the best sign its ecosystem is working: eventually, I stop thinking about it.
