ⓘ TP-Link
TP-Link has introduced the new Tapo C245D smart home indoor camera. This model (similar to the C246D or the outdoor C545D model) is a dual pan/tilt security camera designed to monitor multiple areas of a room simultaneously. By combining two 2K HD lenses into a single device, the system is intended to provide seamless surveillance and minimize blind spots.
The Tapo C245D Features a Wide-Angle and a Telephoto Lens
The dual-lens system in the Tapo C245D consists of a wide-angle lens with a 3.1 mm focal length for situational awareness (122° field of view) and a 6 mm telephoto lens for capturing details. Both lenses feature a 2K resolution (2304×1296 pixels). According to the manufacturer, a new feature is “Synchronized Smart Tracking”: if the fixed wide-angle lens detects movement from people, animals, or vehicles, the motorized telephoto module automatically pans in the corresponding direction to track the object.
Digital zoom is available up to 10.8x. Within the app, users can select a specific area via touch for quick focusing. According to TP-Link, the physical controls offer a 340-degree pan range and a 70-degree tilt range, enabling nearly full 360-degree coverage. Additionally, the camera offers infrared night vision with a range of up to 12 meters, as well as a two-way audio system including noise cancellation for communication.
The integrated AI detection of the Tapo C245D is designed to distinguish between people, pets, vehicles, and crying babies. Users can individually define which events trigger a push notification within the Tapo app. Two options are available for storing recordings: locally, a microSD card with a capacity of up to 512 GB can be used.
Alternatively, TP-Link offers the paid “Tapo Care” cloud service, which provides additional features such as a 30-day video clip history and encrypted backups via subscription. The device is compatible with common smart home systems such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings and is priced at 59.95 Euro (available at retailers including Amazon).

To get a better understanding of these areas, I studied design, digital media and art after completing my apprenticeship as a gold and silversmith. In my spare time, I play music and spend a lot of time in nature with my dogs.
